William Bouguereau (French, 1825 – 1905) painted this exquisite portrait in 1871, based on sketches he made while spending the summer in Brittany in the late 1860s. This oil-on-canvas work measures 50 7/8 x 35 1/8 inches (129.2 x 89.2 cm), and it is on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fifth Avenue, New York City, in Gallery 827.
