William Bouguereau (French, 1825 – 1905) painted this exquisite portrait in 1871, based on sketches he made while spending the summer in Brittany in the late 1860s. This oil-on-canvas work measures 50 7/8 x 35 1/8 inches (129.2 x 89.2 cm), and it is on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fifth Avenue, New York City, in Gallery 827. (The first photograph is by The Met. The others are my photos, unedited, taken in the gallery in July 2017.)
