
Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (Russia, 1817 – 1900) painted this stormy seascape, which is signed in Cyrillic and also in Latin on the reverse. This oil-on-canvas work measures 62 by 95.5 cm (24 1/2 by 37 1/2 inches). It sold at a Sotheby’s, London, auction in November 2013 for almost three times its estimate at 482,500 GBP.
