Giovanni Antonio Canal (aka, Canaletto, 1697 – 1768) was an Italian painter, draughtsman and etcher renowned for his detailed paintings of the grand architecture and ceremonies of Venice, Italy. Canaletto painted The Entrance to the Grand Canal, Venice, with the church of Santa Maria della Salute visible on the left, circa 1730. It is an oil-on-canvas work measuring 496 mm (19.53 inches) in height and 736 mm (28.98 inches) in width, and held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, United States.
