Willem van Aelst (Dutch, 1627 – c. 1683) painted this delightful still life, “A STILL LIFE WITH TULIPS AND OTHER FLOWERS IN A VASE ON A MARBLE LEDGE, WITH A LIZARD AND A BUTTERFLY” circa 1651/2, using oil paint on oak panel. It measures 45.7 by 32.1 cm (18 by 12 5/8 inches), and it was sold at auction by Sotheby’s in London in 2011 for 91,250 GBP.
