Charles Courtney Curran (America, 1861 – 1942) completed this painting in 1888. It portrays his wife, Grace Winthrop Wickham, and her cousin Charlotte Ada Taylor, as they enjoy an idyllic boat ride through a beautiful lotus-flower filled estuary of Lake Erie in Ohio. This oil on canvas work measures 18 x 32 in. (45.7 x 81.3 cm) unframed, and it is owned by the Terra Foundation for American Art. It is on loan to The Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois, June 2015 – present.
