The Horse Fair by Rosa Bonheur, 1853 – 55 

French artist Marie Rosalie Bonheur (Rosa Bonheur, 1822 – 1899) painted this intense scene, a horse market in Paris on the Boulevard de l’Hôpital, near the asylum of Salpêtrière, between 1853 – 1855. The dome of La Salpêtrière is visible in the background of the painting. This oil on canvas masterpiece measures 244.5 × 506.7 cm (96.3 × 199.5 in) and is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
